About
My name is Dina Klimkina. I am a second year Ph.D. student in the political science department at the University of Kentucky. I am interested in political participation, representation, and political mobilization. Prior to attending the University of Kentucky, I worked in international program development with the One Earth Future Foundation. While at OEF, I conducted research and wrote proposals for new programs aimed at developing effective governance systems and preventing violent conflict globally. Additionally, I created programs concerning engagement in extractives industries, participatory approaches to peace building in Colombia, and business as a means for conflict resolution in Somalia. I also had the opportunity to work with the Northern Cheyenne, Northern Arapaho, and Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho on the Sand Creek Massacre Memorial project.
Prior to working with OEF, I received my M.A. in international Studies at the University of Denver, Korbel School of International Studies.During my time at the University of Denver (DU), I conducted a number of substantive research projects on public participation in environmental decision-making, comparative institutions, and international economic policy. I also had the opportunity to intern at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. During my internship, I worked with the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making, and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters, and the Kiev Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers. During my work with these programs, I managed an online database, conducted research, and assisted with Working Group and Secretariat meetings, all of which gave me first-hand in the policy making process. Prior to that worked and volunteered with a number of organizations that focused on improving women’s rights, affordable housing, and human rights education in Africa and the Middle East.
In 2008, I graduated from Centre College with a major in International Studies, and minors in History and Government.
